Hi, I’m Clare.

I am a mom, herbalist, and educator with extensive experience in birthwork here to help you look to nature for nourishment as you heal.

“Do no harm is the first axiom of medicine. This means that the treatment should begin at the lowest possible effective dose. Why use a bulldozer if a broom suffices?...

We don't need medicine that's stronger. We need medicine that's smarter.”

—Michael Castleman, The New Healing Herbs

I view my intellectual and academic training and experience on the same plane of importance as my spiritual herbalism and energetic training, and I incorporate this combination into my client and group work.

In my herbal consultations, workshops, and postpartum support with new parents, I seek out the broom before the bulldozer, and examine the physical, emotional, and energetic systems in an attempt to find answers that Western medicine alone has missed.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as I possibly can laughing with my family and playing in the dirt and sun. I love trying out new recipes, playing outside, experimenting with new herbs, and watching cartoons

As a mom, herbalist, and educator, I hope to empower as many individuals as possible to understand, love, and care for their bodies, their babies, and the earth.

I completed my B.A. in Psychology and my Ed.D. in Health Education in order to understand how the systems and contexts we live in affect our relationships with our bodies, minds, and spirits. I have since shifted my focus away from the limitations of the structures we are born into, and towards the limitless possibilities available through modalities like transformative energy work and spiritual herbalism.

When I became a mom, I was a brand new doula, choosing birthwork in order to support my clients in working with their bodies to further understand and trust themselves through the transformative experiences of birthing a baby, guiding their child(ren) through life, and tending to the health of the earth. After five years of work as a birth doula, and three years of work as a midwife assistant and apprentice, the on-call lifestyle has proven not to fit into my family’s needs. My love of supporting individuals with herbal medicine and a deeper connection to the Earth persists through my one-on-one herbal consultations, group workshops like Your Mom’s Herb Club, development of herbal products, and postpartum support.

I dove into my interest in herbs and plants during my pregnancy because I knew I wanted to raise my child with an understanding of our symbiosis with the natural world, and I've continued with formal and informal coursework in herbs, botanical medicine, and the energetic and spiritual roots of individual and collective ailments since then.

I combine my lifelong love of learning about empowered health with my wonder and awe of the natural and spiritual worlds to support and help replenish not only new parents and families, but individuals with an interest in herbal medicine and a deeper desire to connect with plants for all kinds of reasons. I love to learn about and provide support for all versions of the human experience, and committing to taking incredible care of the bodies we live in are a crucial piece to that.

My extensive experience in birth work has given me the opportunity to witness far more that connects us than separates us across perceived differences. I am radically hopeful about what is possible when we turn to the Earth for healing first, and look at our whole system - our body’s systems, but also our emotional and energetic worlds, and how they can benefit from a deeper connection to the Earth - in order to feel our best.

Herbal Consultations Charleston - Nature and Nurture

While the on-call lifestyle of a birthworker no longer works for my family’s needs, herbal medicine and postpartum support allow me to provide the same holistic support and intuitive care I grew to love as a doula.

I continue to support families during their childbearing years in a number of ways, and in April 2024 I expanded my herbalism support to individual clients beyond the phases of pregnancy and postpartum. Now, herbal clients seek me out for support with a variety ailments that Western medicine by itself has not yet been able to resolve, and I teach workshops for groups and individuals about how to connect themselves and their families with the plants around us for support.
